Washington State Tourism and the Department of Commerce announced the release of The 2010 Official Washington State Travel Planner. The FREE 152-page, full color print version of the travel planner is available for order at www.experiencewa.com or by calling 1-800-544-1800 In an effort to decrease the environmental impact of the printed guide, an online version is also available in English, and Spanish, French, German and Japanese translations are planned for release on the site in the near future. The online version is available on www.experiencewa.com under “Plan a Trip” at the top of the page, by clicking “Printed Guides & Maps.” Enter online to win monthly travel giveaways.

DNR Biologist receives The Wildlife Society Special Achievement Award. Scott Fisher was presented The Wildlife Society Special Achievement Award by Susan Piper (Olympic National Forest Biologist), who is President of the Washington Chapter of the Wildlife Society. Fisher received the Special Achievement Award for his leadership and commitment to the success of a lynx research study, tracking lynx in northeast Washington.

Mar. 26, Fri.: Application deadline for 2010 Thurston County Master Composter Training – Master Composters are trained volunteers who teach the basics of home composting to the citizens of Thurston County. Master Composter training begins March 31 and continues to May 19, 2010. Participants receive 14 hours of hands-on training based on a variety of composting topics. Some of these subjects include kitchen and yard waste, worm bins, compost safety, how to maintain piles, troubleshooting, application tips plus much more. Attendance at all seven trainings is required to become a certified Master Composter.
